Tips to Fix the PS3 No Sound Issue

Its a lot less fun when you cant hear anything form your PS3. Here are 3 tips to get a PS3 no sound fix!

1) Check for loose cables. If you find any push them back in. Be sure to check the connections on the TV too.

2) Check the TV to see if it is on mute.

3) Check the TV's settings. Sometimes it is not the PS3 that is to blame, try using the PS3 on another TV, if you get audio then maybe something is wrong with the first TV.

4) Try using another cable to connect your PS3 to the TV. Maybe the cable is defective.

5) Sometimes the console's settings can cause the PS3 no sound. Try resetting the console. To do this press and hold the power button for 5 seconds until you hear 2 beeps.

If all these don't give you a PS3 no sound fix then you have a more serious problem. Now how do you fix the PS3 then? Well you are basically left with 2 options:

*Send your console to Sony

Send your console to Sony
This seems like the most practical and best idea right? The creator will be repairing the console and you should get a 3 month warranty on it when you get it back. However they will charge you around$150 to use their service (unless your console is under warranty). Also you will have to wait 4-6 weeks to get your console back and when you do you'll notice that all your hard drive data is gone; Sony wipes your hard drive before they return it to you.

Get a Good PS3 Repair Guide and Fix the PS3 Yourself
This is the cheaper and faster option for those whose consoles have run out of warranty. You can get good PS3 repair guides for under $50 and they usually feature:

  • Step-by-Step instructions with pictures and videos
  • Some sort of support such as email support or a member's area...or both
  • Money back guarantee so if the guide doesn't work you can get your money back
  • 1 hour fixes...although it may vary depending on your problem

If forking over half the cost of a new PS3 and waiting 4-6 weeks to get your PS3 back from Sony isn't for you. Then you need to get a good PS3 repair guide to get a PS3 no sound fix otherwise you risk damaging your PS3 further. Click here to see the top 4 PS3 repair guides!

Keep your PS3 cool-Avoid trouble

Heat is a major cause of the infamous yellow light of death. So it makes sense that if you avoid excessive heat, your chances of getting the PS3 yellow light of death decreases.

Keep PS3 Cool Tips

As the PS3 runs it generates a lot of heat. There is, of course a cooling system is responsible for managing this heat, but there are some things that can make this cooling system efficient or inefficient at their job. Over time heat can damage components within the PS3. Below are some simple tips to help that cooling system help keep you PS3 cool.

Tips for Keeping your PS3 cool

-Play your PS3 in an open space, not in a closed area such as a cupboard. If you have it in a cupboard take it out when you are going to use it. Be sure to place it on a SMOOTH, FLAT SURFACE, NEVER RUN IT ON A CARPET, this blocks the vents and intakes. Also keep in mind the overall temperature of the room you are in. If the room itself is too hot then your PS3 is more likely to overheat; even if it is in an open space. What some people do is on hot days they turn on their A/C's set to 76 degrees and that keeps the fan from going into over drive (meaning the cooling system isn't struggling to keep the heat down).

-Clean out those dusty vents regularly. Dust obstructs the airflow more than you think and makes it harder for the PS3 to cool down. As a result the PS3 becomes hot. Vacuuming the vents usually work to remove the dust there. You can also cover it after use so that dust can't get in a build up on the vents.

Although keeping your PS3 cool may prevent many problem sadly some will still breakdown. If you want to repair it without having to send it to Sony, spend $150 and wait 6 weeks for it to be returned then you must have a good repair guide so that you can repair it yourself.

Protect your PS3 from damage!

If you keep your PS3 safe and it'll treat you well...most of the time. Below are some simple things you can do to protect your PS3 from damage and, hopefully, increase its life span.

Three Tips to Prevent Your PS3 From Damage

The PS3 is a pretty well built system. However like most electronic devices it can still be damaged. Here are my top 3 tips that may prevent PS3 damage.

1) Protect your PS3 from power surges. A power surge is an unexpected spike in voltage. It can be cause by something such as a lightning strike. It can short out the internal components in your PS3...or any plugged in device for that matter. To protect against a power surge all you need is a surge protector.

2) Protect your PS3 from spills. The PS3 isn't water proof so if you spill something on it and it gets inside the system, it may damage it.

3) Protect your PS3 from heat. As the PS3 runs it generates a lot of heat there is, of course, a built in system to keep it cool. However there are some simple things that you can do to help the cooling system run effectively.

- Play in an open area, on a hard flat surface; never use it on a carpet. Carpets can block the air vents and also trap the heat resulting in a very hot PS3.

-Make sure the vents aren't obstructed by dust; if they are you can clean it with a vacuum. Be sure not to use too strong a vacuum a hand vac should be okay. You can also cover the PS3 with a cloth when it is off to stop dust from getting into the vents...and to the PS3 as a whole.

Even though you try to prevent your PS3 from damage. Sometimes its not enough and it still breaks. When that happens you can either send it to Sony which will cost you $150 and a 6 week wait or you can get a good repair guide and repair it yourself.
